Entry Profile:
Applicants must hold a third-level (undergraduate) degree in the following fields of Science:
- Environmental Sciences.
- Natural Sciences.
- Forestry.
- Social Sciences.
- Economic Sciences.
- Related fields: Biology, Animal Science, Chemistry, Biochemistry, Geography, Geology, Civil Engineering, Agricultural Sciences, Architecture and Biotechnology, with certified experience in Environmental Management.
Graduate Profile:
Graduates of the Master’s Degree in Environmental Management with a specialisation in Integrated Management Systems (online mode) manage and lead processes to improve environmental performance and sustainability in organisations and territories. This is achieved through the design and implementation of integrated management systems, the analysis and modelling of environmental data, the assessment of impacts and risks, and the formulation of technological solutions and strategies for the circular economy and climate change adaptation, in compliance with the current regulatory framework and with an ethical approach. The programme concludes with the development and defence of an applied research project (final dissertation). Generic competencies (prioritised):
Generic Competencies
- Critical thinking and evidence-based decision-making, applying data analysis and a systemic approach.
- Effective academic and professional communication in virtual environments, with interdisciplinary collaborative work.
- Ethical and responsible conduct, with commitment to sustainability, regulatory compliance and continuous improvement.
Specific Competency
- Design, implement and evaluate Integrated Management Systems (ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and ISO 45001), using a process-based approach, indicators and internal audits.
- Analyse and model environmental data using applied statistics, GIS and remote sensing for environmental diagnosis and decision-making support.
- Assess environmental impacts and risks in projects and productive activities, and formulate management, monitoring and verification plans (MRV).
- Design and implement strategies for integrated waste management and valorisation under a circular economy and corporate social responsibility approach.
- Propose water treatment and soil remediation technologies, selecting them according to performance, costs, risks and regulatory requirements.
- Formulate strategies for climate change adaptation and vulnerability reduction, incorporating nature-based solutions and governance/financing mechanisms.
- Develop and defend an applied research project aligned with the programme, using scientific methodology, data analysis and academic communication:
- CE1: Modules 2, 8 and 9.
- CE2: Modules 1 and 6.
- CE3: Modules 6 and 9.
- CE4: Modules 3 and 8.
- CE5: Module 7 (in articulation with 6).
- CE6: Module 4.
- CE7: Modules 5 and 10.
Learning evidence is demonstrated through applied projects in each module (GIS diagnosis/modelling, integrated waste management plan and valorisation, environmental management plan and risk assessment, climate adaptation plan, integrated audit) and in the final dissertation, in accordance with the micro-curricular learning outcomes.
General objective
To prepare professionals with a solid scientific basis for the study of the environment and the planning of its development, through the application of interdisciplinary and trans-disciplinary methods that make the promotion, validity and enforceability of the rights of nature viable.
Specific objectives.
- To deepen the study of the relationship between society-nature and environmental economics in order to generate measures that minimise the impact of climate change.
- To provide solid training in soil management, environmental impacts and wastewater treatment in order to guarantee the rights of nature.
- Address the problem of environmental remediation from an educational perspective that respects cultural diversity and the guidelines of the national plan for good living.
- Promote the application of sustainable solutions to the company through a dialogue of knowledge regarding environmental management, policies, legislation and environmental auditing.
- Strengthen capacities to carry out basic and/or applied research in accordance with the programme's lines of research.
