UTEQ directors and researchers met with Jean-Philippe Marelli, director of integrated pest management of the Mars company.
Based on the agreements signed between MARS LA CHOLA-UTEQ and the Faculty of Agricultural Sciences, initial research work has been carried out, which is focused on the search for plant growth promoting and disease biocontrolling Rhizobacteria in Theobroma cacao. The Biotechnology Laboratory of the Department of Molecular Microbiology of the UTEQ has achieved outstanding results in the biological control of pathogenic agents in cocoa crops such as: (Phytophthora palmivora, Moniliophthora roreri and Moniliophthora perniciosa).
In addition, this project seeks to establish new agreements between Mars and UTEQ, which will allow the development and implementation of the research project on the search for growth-promoting bacteria in Ecuador.
