UTEQ participated in a scientific event in the USA

San Francisco, California, USA, was the venue for the Future of Information and Communication Conference, (FICC) 2019 edition.


The Universidad Técnica Estatal de Quevedo participated in this occasion with the presentation of two of its research papers.

The first article was related to the implementation of artificial intelligence techniques (Machine Learning) applied to facial recognition as biometric authentication in mobile devices.: "Assessing the Performance of a Biometric Mobile Application for Workdays Registration", and the second article was related to the use of Bayesian networks for the analysis of academic data: Educational Database Analysis Using Simple Bayesian Classifier".

This event takes place every year, and this time it was held at the Park Central San Francisco, on 14 and 15 March, with the presence of 160 participants, teachers and researchers from various countries around the world: Japan, China, Pakistan, England, Indonesia, Canada, Senegal, United States and others. Keynote speakers included experts from the technology companies Google, Nokia Bell Labs and VMware.

Cristian Zambrano, research professor who represented UTEQ in this event, commented that they also visited the facilities of Stanford University, where they were able to know closely several details of the Research Projects that are developed in the Artificial Intelligence Laboratory of the Faculty of Computer Science, such as: Autonomous cars, creation of Underwater Robots, Control of drones as natural swarms and Manipulation with human gestures, augmented reality, among others. They also visited several of the world's largest technology companies such as Google, Facebook, Apple and Tesla Motor, all located in the Silicon Valley sector in the city of Palo Alto near the San Francisco Bay.

The papers presented at the event are published in a special edition of the Springer book series: Lecture Notes in Networks and Systems in volume 69 and 70.
