In a special ceremony attended by the main authorities, teachers, employees, students and special guests.

Eduardo Díaz Ocampo, rector of the university, said in his speech that this sports complex consists of a synthetic grass court, two multi-purpose courts for the practice of basketball, indor football, handball, indoor football, as well as for the development of social and cultural events. The sports complex is complemented with bathrooms, dressing rooms, bar and parking for the convenience of those who make use of the sports area. In addition, the highest university authority expressed his commitment to continue working every day for a more democratic, scientific and technical university at the service of the Ecuadorian people.

Díaz also thanked the Prefecture of Los Ríos for their contribution to the UTEQ, highlighting the asphalting work carried out in the car park adjacent to the sports fields and the improvement of the car park located next to the Faculty of Business Sciences and the complete re-plastering of the main car park located in front of the auditorium ""Carlos Cortázar¨.

Anderly Toaquiza, President of the UTEQ University League, thanked the authorities for making this very useful work a reality for the students who complement their education with sports practice.

Marco Troya, Prefect of the province of Los Rios, who was invited to the inauguration of the sports complex, congratulated the university authorities for the work they are doing, and said that this university has great potential to become one of the best in the country.

Students from the Telematics Engineering course gave the university rector an electronic scoreboard to mark the changes in the matches, which was developed by them in the classrooms (photo). After the opening ceremony and in the midst of the students' excitement, several sports matches took place, valid for the internal olympiads that are currently being held at the institution.
