The event took place in the auditorium of the Faculty of Business Studies on 9 November and was attended by UTEQ authorities, teachers, students and special guests.

Bolivar Yepez, Director of the UED, in his report of work 2016-2017 presented the activities that were carried out during this period. He also said that for this year the UED He also said that for this year the UED has delivered 1560 new professionals, this being one of its greatest contributions to Ecuadorian society. "At the moment we have eleven professors developing doctoral activities in various countries in Latin America and Europe, for which I thank the authorities of the UTEQ for the permanent support to these academics who will soon contribute to the development of this university and the country," said Yépez.

During the ceremony, the following awards were presented: teacher of the year Pedro Intriago, merits for scientific articles: Marco Villarroel Puma, Juan José Reyes Perez, Edison Fuentes Yánez, Emma Mendoza Vargas, Francisco Liberio Roca, Guido álvarez Perdomo, Javier Zamora Mayorga, Ximena Cervantes Molina, Ximena Guillin Llanos, Mariana Solís García, Luis García Macías, Ivan Jacho Sänchez, Bolívar Yépez Yánez, Verónica Osorio and Elsa álvarez Morales.

The best students of the UED also received awards: Elvis Burgos, Indira Escobar, Francisca Pantoja, Mabel Centeno and Gissela Mora. The people with the longest service to the institution were also recognised: Bolívar Yépez and Rosa Pallaroso for 18 years, Lauden Rizzo Zamora for 15 years, and Ferddy Sabando Ávila for 10 years. Sandro Montoya was recognised as the best employee of this Academic Unit.
