Students of the Telematics degree of the UTEQ carry out community service internships through the linkage project.

"Application of ICTs as an inclusion tool for people with disabilities", which is being developed in the "Fe y Alegría" educational centre in the city of Santo Domingo.

Eight educational resources have been developed in this project, three of which were presented on 4 March.

The first of these was the "Mirror to infinity" which is an optical illusion, which serves to develop communication, combines stimuli and response through colours. They also presented the "Montesori light box", which serves to facilitate memorisation and is very useful for sensory integration.

The third product presented was the "Activity Box", an interactive box for children with autism that helps them to recognise the activities they have to do every day by means of audio and graphics. It improves the developmental deficit that affects socialisation, communication and imagination.

José Pico, director of Fe y Alegría Santo Domingo, commented on this project that benefits his children. "I thank the UTEQ for caring and being concerned about a society that is more inclusive".

For his part, Henry Alarcón, UTEQ's director of outreach, mentioned "we observe with great pride and satisfaction how UTEQ students are contributing to the development of this institution and families of children who have physical or intellectual diversity and with the help of ICTs are improving their living conditions".

The UTEQ, through its linking department, is developing several projects that benefit the community. This is a clear example of how through the academy it is possible to insert knowledge into the social experience.
