UTEQ has a new Research Director as of April 1st, 2021. The economist Carlos Edison Zambrano, Master in Business Administration and PhD in Rural Economics.


What is the objective during your term of office?

The aim of the Research Directorate is to increase the quality of institutional scientific research and innovation, in accordance with the socio-productive needs and demands of the national and international scientific community.

What is the structure of the Research Directorate?

The Research Directorate has been strengthened with a team of 16 people, distributed in a Technical Committee and an Editorial Committee with representatives from the faculties of Agricultural Sciences, Business Sciences, Industry and Production Sciences and Engineering Sciences. The Directorate of Journals has also been created to promote the editorial process of our 3 institutional journals.

How is it planned to meet the university's research objective within the Quality Assurance Plan?

First of all, regulations for the development of research will be developed, updated and approved. Specifically, we will have a research plan that will include regulations for monitoring, project evaluation, intellectual property, resource management and recognition of faculty and students. The proposed goals are:

1. Improve the refereeing processes (5%) per year
2. Computerise the management of resources as well as research results and publications
3. To increase the uptake of resources for research (5%)
4. Maintain the annual FOCICYT calls for proposals


Reiterating that the seventh call is in force with 55 projects in which 104 research teachers are participating and despite the difficulties of the pandemic we are in the process of evaluation and selection of the eighth call in which our teachers presented 43 projects.

Secondly, to promote the research results of UTEQ teachers with the following goals:
1. To increase the production of books (10%)
2. Increase the participation of teachers and students in scientific events
3. Register intellectual property of industrial design, software and plant varieties.


What is the projection for the UTEQ Investiga programme?

To continue strengthening this exercise of direct communication with our social environment, which allows us to disseminate the work of our teachers - researchers by providing relevant information of interest to citizens.
