In the world of aquaculture, the search for knowledge and opportunities for growth is essential.

Roberto Jiménez Velasteguí, an outstanding student of the UTEQs Master in Aquaculture, has reached an extraordinary milestone. Roberto has been awarded a prestigious scholarship to attend a mariculture course in the Peoples Republic of China, an achievement that not only rewards his dedication and passion for aquaculture, but also opens doors to a promising future in this ever-evolving industry.

In this interview, we explore Robertos experiences, his expectations for this exciting learning journey and how this unique opportunity in China could contribute to the advancement of aquaculture in our country and around the world.

Roberto, how did you become interested in participating in this course as a UTEQ Masters student?

The interest to participate in the "Technical Training Course on Mariculture and Logistic Processing of Aquatic Products for Latin American and Caribbean Countries" was born out of my deep commitment to aquaculture and my constant desire to expand my knowledge in this field. During my course in the Master in Aquaculture at the UTEQ, I wrote a scientific article on "Diagnostic of Mariculture in Ecuador: Opportunities and Challenges" and while I was in the process of editing it, I received an institutional email from Senescyt to apply for this course, so I applied with this article and was selected for this scholarship.

We know that you are one of the 4 Ecuadorians who will participate in this course, what are your expectations?

Being one of the four Ecuadorians selected to attend this mariculture course in China is an honour and a great responsibility. My expectations are very high and I hope to get the most out of this experience in several ways. I would like to acquire solid technical knowledge in mariculture, taking advantage of the vast experience and advanced technologies that China has to offer in this field. I hope to learn about the latest trends, practices and techniques that can be applied in Ecuadorian aquaculture to improve production and sustainability.

What message do you have for Masters students or those considering a Masters degree and for those considering applying for this type of scholarship?

For Masters students and those considering a Masters degree, my message would be to follow your passion and constantly look for opportunities to learn and grow. Postgraduate education is an investment in yourself and your future and can open doors you did not even know existed. Dedication, curiosity and perseverance are essential qualities on this academic journey.

For those interested in applying for scholarships and similar opportunities, I would encourage you to be proactive in seeking opportunities and not to underestimate your potential. Determination and a willingness to strive for academic excellence are key factors in standing out in selection processes. Never underestimate your ability to achieve your academic and career goals. Education and scholarships can be the springboard to a future of achievement and meaningful contribution. Keep your passion alive, be willing to learn and strive, and constantly look for ways to advance your educational and career goals. Live in the present and seize the opportunities of the now.

How would you describe your study experience at UTEQ?

My study experience at UTEQ has been exceptional in many ways. This institution stands out for its commitment to academic excellence and its focus on the holistic education of its students. First of all, UTEQ has a highly qualified faculty that not only has extensive experience in their respective disciplines, but is also committed to providing quality education and supporting the academic and personal development of students. The close interaction with the professors has enriched my learning process and allowed me to explore in depth the topics related to aquaculture.

In addition, UTEQ promotes research and innovation, which has given me the opportunity to participate in projects and activities outside the classroom. These practical experiences have complemented my academic training and prepared me for the challenges of the aquaculture field. My experience at UTEQ has been enriching, challenging and full of opportunities to grow both academically and personally. This institution has been fundamental in my development as an aquaculture professional and I am grateful for the experiences and knowledge I have gained here.
