Students of the Agricultural Engineering course of the Distance Learning Unit carried out the harvesting of totally organic crops.

Based on the project "Implementation of family gardens for the production, consumption and commercialisation of organic vegetables in the canton of Quevedo and surrounding areas".

Thanks to the agreement between UTEQ and the GAD of Quevedo, the students have been working for three months now on the cultivation of organic vegetables free of chemicals, for which they have applied insecticides and organic fertilisers, thus being beneficial for the health of both the young people who cultivate them and the people who consume them. The vegetables that have been planted in the Social Development Centre are radish, lettuce, tomato, beans, broccoli, broccoli, achocha, broad beans, cabbage, turnip and coriander for which most of the crops have already been harvested. It is worth noting that the harvest of these vegetables will be sold to raise funds for the benefit of the young people who attend this special educational centre. Freddy Sabando, teacher of the Distance Learning Unit and director of the project, said that this programme is carried out on an ongoing basis because there are students who like to do this type of practice in order to fulfil their hours of work experience and be better professionals in the future.
