With a solemn virtual session, the Faculty of Engineering Sciences (FCI) of the UTEQ commemorated its thirteenth anniversary of creation.

The virtual meeting was attended by the main authorities of the alma mater, faculty directors, career coordinators, teachers and student leaders.

During the solemn session, the most outstanding teachers, students, employees and workers, who were recognised for their outstanding work this year, were named.

For years of work as teachers they received recognition: Lidia Vlassova (30 years), Carlos Márquez de la Plata (25 years), Omar Cevallos (25 years), Patricio Alcócer (20 years) Efraín Díaz (20 years), Gilberto Portilla (20 years), Cristhian Zambrano (15 years), Winston Morales (10 years), Jorge Saa (10 years), Emilio Zhuma (10 years), Ricardo Aguirre (10 years), Mariela Díaz (10 years), Julio Pazmiño (10 years), José Tubay (10 years), Fernando Mallea (10 years). Patricio Alcocer also received a certificate for academic merit, while scientific merit went to Amilkar Puris Cáceres. For projects with the greatest impact on the community, recognition went to Jean Simancas and José Tubay.

The best student of this faculty was Ricardo Chu from the Electrical Engineering course; Elian Intriago from the Environmental Engineering course; Valeria Torres from the Systems course; Arianna Ganchozo from the Telematics course; Adrián Obando from the Mechanical Engineering course; and the merit for service work was awarded to Ángel Ube.

For his part, the dean of the FCI, Washington Chiriboga, in his accountability report from September 2020 to September 2021, indicated that this academic unit currently hosts 1593 local students and from different areas of Ecuador, a number that has been reduced due to the creation of new faculties.

In the teaching function, he said that the faculty of engineering has 98 professors, 27 tenured and 71 non-tenured.

He also indicated that during this period the research function stands out with a contribution of 74 articles during the year 2020. "In 2021, despite the pandemic, scientific projects have not stopped, and to date the FCI has already contributed 22 articles of regional impact," said Chiriboga.
