Historical Review of the FCI

Taking into consideration the technological advances and the prospective analysis of the development of the area and the country, during the administration of Eng. Manuel Haz Álvarez (+), as Rector, by Resolution Twenty-Second of the Honourable University Council dated August 6, 2008, a Commission was formed by Engineers Roberto Pico Saltos, Sonia Barzola Miranda and Patricio Alcocer Quinteros, to preliminarily carry out the feasibility study for the formation of the Faculty of Engineering Sciences (FCI).

As a result of the efforts of this Commission and the work of several teachers, the need to satisfy the demand for new professionals with highly scientific and technological profiles that respond to the precepts of engineering became evident. On this basis, the Seventh Resolution of the University Council of September 9th 2008 created the Faculty of Engineering Sciences, formed by the School of Computer Science, with its degrees in Systems Engineering, Telematics Technology and the newly created degrees in Telematics Engineering and Graphic Design Engineering and Multimedia Production.

Subsequently, the School for Agro-industrial Development with its degrees in Agro-industrial Engineering, Industrial Engineering and Industrial Hygiene and Safety Engineering, the School of Electrical Engineering with the degree course of the same name and the School of Mechanics with the degree course in Mechanical Engineering became part of this noble Faculty.

The FCI currently has a student population of 1932 students, 100 teachers, 4 senior technicians and 7 administrative collaborators. The degree courses offered are: Mechanical Engineering, Telematics Engineering, Software Engineering, Systems Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Agro-industrial Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Industrial Safety and Occupational Health Engineering, and the degree in Graphic Design and Multimedia Engineering, which is in the process of being closed.
