The Faculty of Agricultural Sciences celebrated its 35th anniversary on July 25th.


To this end, a series of activities were held, culminating in the Solemn Session during which Dean Leonardo Matute gave his report on his work and presented awards to outstanding academics, researchers and students.

As a start to the festive activities, on 11 July, a cleaning minga was held to clean up the green areas of the Faculty, in which students and teachers participated, as well as cultural events and sports games. Carlos Cortaza González auditorium, in which university authorities, directors, teachers and students of FCA, the oldest academic unit of the UTEQ, participated.

Leonardo Matute, in his report of work, mentioned that this last year has been one of great achievements in the substantive areas of the faculty, since the beginning of the current academic year marked the start of a new stage in the life of the FCA, with the inauguration of the new building located in the La María estate, with new facilities, fully equipped and in a suitable environment, thanks to the efforts of the university rector, Eduardo Díaz Ocampo.

During the solemn session for the 35th anniversary of the FCA, mentions and awards were presented to the students with the best average in the Agronomy Engineering course, Gema Espinoza Zambrano, the Agronomy course (Redesign) and the best student of the Faculty, Juan Troncoso Correa; while the award for best teacher was given to Fernando Abasolo Pacheco. The following researchers were also recognised: Fabricio Canchignia Martínez, Ángel Cedeño Moreira, Karen Chavez Arteaga, Javier Auhing Arcos and Ricardo Romero Meza; the teachers who made possible the creation of the first master's degree in Agronomy with a mention in Sustainable Agricultural Production were also recognised: Juan José Reyes Pérez, Marisol Rivero Herrada and Víctor Guamán Sarango. Recognition was given to teachers who retired: Ignacio Sotomayor Herrera, Ludvik Amores Puyutaxi.

As part of the programme, an Act of Delivery of laboratory equipment and materials for research was signed, donated by the Reybanpac company with which the faculty has cooperation agreements. In return for this donation, the dean of the faculty presented an acknowledgement to Vicente Wong Naranjo, vice-president of Reybanpac.
