Agrotourism is an alternative for small and medium-sized producers dedicated to tourism.

It offers the visitor the possibility of getting to know aspects of the local culture and learning about traditional practices. In this sense, in Ecuador and particularly in the province of Los Ríos, agrotourism is considered a part of rural tourism.

The research project developed by Dr. Nelly Manjarrez, research professor at UTEQ, aims to study sustainable development-oriented enterprises dedicated to rural tourism in the form of agrotourism in Quevedo and its area of influence.

The farms where the research was applied are: Aguas Blancas, Centro Recreacional Angelita, Cascada de Arcoíris del Congoma, Quinta K, La Blanquita, La Evidencia, dedicated to the activity of agrotourism as an economic alternative for entrepreneurs; two of them Experimental Farms, La Represa and La María de la UTEQ, seen as tourist potential in the modalities of scientific tourism and agrotourism.

Conclusions: There is evidence of limitations in the application of regulations and legal procedures for the development of rural tourism activities in the agrotourism modality. Family enterprises with few workers, characterised by traditions and customs typical of the Montubian culture, are highlighted. In the financial sphere, there are shortcomings in terms of having formal records detailing expenses, income and investments. Quevedo and its areas of influence have great potential for strengthening rural tourism.
