Students of the Agricultural Engineering course of the Distance Learning Unit (UED) presented a total of 16 practical works related to the elaboration of value-added products from agricultural materials in an open house held at the central premises of the UTEQ on 10 March.

Natural yoghurt with pineapple chunks, hibiscus wine, soy drinks, radish jam, arazá wine, artisanal rice beer, cassava starch biscuits, pitahaya ice cream, redcurrant liqueur, potato manjar, artisanal barley and soursop beer, banana biscuits, among others, were the products exhibited at the fair, which generated excellent comments among the attendees.

Francisco Espinoza, professor at UTEQ and director of the project, said that one of its objectives is to raise awareness of the production process from harvesting to the production of value-added products.

"In this module on the commercialisation of agricultural products, the students have ended up making products for human consumption. In addition, through this open house we have made known what they have produced so that the university community is aware of the existence of these productive and marketing activities and in which future professionals put into practice the learning generated in the classroom," said Espinoza.

This event was attended by the main authorities of the university, teachers and students of the UED, who tasted and enjoyed the various products on display.
