The neuroscientist Mario Alonso Puig (Spanish), who has dedicated a large part of his life to researching how to unfold human potential.

He considers that art influences society for the better in moments of rest for the individual, who works for a salary or an enterprise, freeing himself from many tensions. Art and culture are very common concepts, paired together to refer to artistic expression.

The covid pandemic has left an evident economic damage of great impact for artists all over the world due to the prohibition of massive events such as festivals, graduations, concerts, etc., affecting the economy of this sector.

Among the cultural activities that have been undermined are symphonic and tropical orchestras, mariachis, trios, soloists, instrumentalists, theatre performers, painters and dancers.

Many artists have changed the way they work so that art does not stop, for example, thanks to virtual platforms, cultural activities have been offered to the respectable public in accordance with the biosecurity standards required by the situation.

The hiring of artists has decreased notably, reaching figures of up to 90% as a result of the pandemic. Consequently, if the Ministry of Culture and Heritage, through its provincial guidelines, does not promote planning aimed at supporting activities for the benefit of Ecuadorian artists, these men and women dedicated to the exciting world of art will disappear.

This State portfolio must promote all artistic manifestations in Ecuador, in the different fields: literature, plastic arts, music, dance, theatre and others.

It is time for those at the head of this Ministry to stimulate artists with incentives established in the Organic Law of Culture, which incorporates a series of employment benefits and tax facilities.

On the other hand, at the glorious State Technical University of Quevedo (UTEQ), cultural events have improved exponentially with the virtual attendance of students to virtual events, among which stand out: the University Music Festival, Women's, Mothers' and Fathers' Days, and the institutional anniversary. Next will come the Month of the Arts and cultural events despite the limitations of connectivity.

It is definitely not the same to direct a performer virtually as it is in person, however, there is a lot of passion for art among the students who dedicate their valuable time to learning music and dance in the schools that our university has.

The pandemic will pass and our artists will possibly paint a better 'face' of covid, while we artists will continue to share common feelings that inspire us to perform the most beautiful melodies.
