The Council for Evaluation, Accreditation and Quality Assurance in Higher Education - CEAACES, has been organising a series of meetings with the country's universities.


In order to hold a dialogue on joint reconstruction,systematic reconstruction of the system of democratic, participatory, continuous and transformative improvement of the educational quality of the national higher education system, taking into account the diverse contexts,continuous and transformative improvement of the quality of education in the national higher education system, taking into account the different contexts.

In this context,the construction of the updated CEAACES model of institutional evaluation of universities and polytechnics, constitutes an evolutionary process. This is not only from the perspective of CEAACES' conceptions but, above all, from the reality of the HEIs themselves, from the reality of the HEIs themselves. This situation has been the determining factor in the establishment of differences between the models formulated in the general evaluation of 2013, that of 2015-2016 for the recategorisation, and the current model for the 2018 evaluation.

With regard to career evaluation, CEAACES proposes a model based, among other relevant reasons, on the need to guarantee a systemic, holistic and organic vision of the degree evaluation processes for accreditation purposes. In addition, the improvements incorporated respond not only to a reorganisation of indicators, but also to a conceptual and epistemological vision of the evaluation of the quality of degree programmes.

It is important to emphasise that it requires the joint contribution of authorities, professors, students, employees and workers of the University,students, employees and workers of the State Technical University of Quevedo are required to comply with the indicators demanded by the models, in order to strengthen the quality management system at UTEQ and to guarantee the community a quality education,

In accordance with the actions carried out by the CEAACES, the Internal Evaluation and Quality Management Commission - CEIGC, with a view to a new accreditation process, is implementing the UTEQ Self-Evaluation Plan, a reflective, self-critical and systematic process, where the CEAACES evaluation models are to be used as a fundamental basis.

The CEIGC organised several meetings with authorities, professors and students of the UTEQ, who actively participated in the day of socialisation of the updated CEAACES Evaluation Models, such as the "Modelo de Evaluación Institucional de Universidades y Escuelas Politécnicas 2018" (Institutional Evaluation Model of Universities and Polytechnic Schools 2018) and the "Generic Model for the Evaluation of the Learning Environment of Degrees in Ecuador, December 2017"., held from 22 to 24 January 2018.

In this event, Dr. Raúl Díaz Ocampo, President of the CEIGC of the UTEQ, explained in detail what the institutional and career evaluation consists of, the changes that have been incorporated in the models, the committed areas, criteria, sub-criteria and indicators to be considered within the external evaluation of CEAACES, in which the university will soon present itself for a new accreditation process. "The commitment and active participation of the members of the university community (authorities, professors, students, graduates, employees and workers) is vital in this process, in order to successfully face the challenge of institutional reaccreditation and accreditation of the careers," said Dr. Raul Diaz.

In this event, 259 professors participated, which constitutes 77% of the total number of professors of the UTEQ, a participation that reflects the interest and commitment of the academic community for the institutional and career accreditation. Students who are part of the Internal Career Evaluation Committees also attended the event.

It should be remembered that theis a compulsory process that higher education institutions in Ecuador are subject to and that is valid for 5 years, so UTEQ will have to undergo a new accreditation in 2018. On the other hand, the evaluation process for the accreditation of university degrees is being developed.

The State Technical University of Quevedo is taking on the challenge of institutional accreditation based on its recent efforts to improve the quality of its processes. This socialisation day aimed to raise awareness among the university community to take on the challenge of facing the external evaluation of CEAACES, and the importance of teamwork with a common goal, such as accreditation.
