Livestock Sciences contributing to the strengthening of research at UTEQ

As one of the strengths of the Faculty of Livestock Sciences, Dean Gerardo Segovia highlighted the important contribution it has made to strengthening research activity.


The Faculty of Livestock Sciences has six projects approved in the last call of the Competitive Fund for Scientific and Technological Research (Focicyt) and two flagship projects which are: "Use and maximum efficiency of an integrated multi-trophic aquaponics system" and "Control of viral pathogens and genetic characterisation of important fruit species in Quevedo, Ecuador," said Segovia.

This academic unit in the period 2019-2020 has a faculty of 74 academics, of which 46% are full professors and 54% are non-tenured; 25 of the professors, equivalent to 34%, have PhD degrees.

The solemn session for the 28 years of creation was held in the auditorium "Ing. Carlos Cortaza" and during it, awards were presented to Emma Torres Navarrete, best teacher; Camilo Mestanza Uquillas, research merit; Tanya Leones Zevallos, best employee; and Joel Freire Vaca, best student of the faculty. Special mentions were also awarded for years of service to the institution: Freddy Guevara Santana and Guido álvarez Perdomo (10 years); Diana Vasco Mora and Yenny Torres Navarrete (15 years); José Romero Romero Romero, Jorge Muñoz Rodríguez, ítalo Espinoza Guerra and Víctor Godoy Espinoza (20 years); Emma Torres Navarrete and Kleber Estupiñan Véliz (25 years); Roque Vivas Moreira and Jorge Rodríguez Tobar (30 years); and Edison Mazón Paredes (35 years). The employees and workers of this faculty were also recognised for their years of service: Lourdes Ramos Mackliff , Aurelio Zapatier Santillan and Javier Villarroel Posligua (15 years); Mario Cobo (20 years) and Tanya Leones Zevallos (25 years).

The teachers who have taken retirement were also honoured: Wilfrido Escobar Pavón, Edwin Tapia Moreno and Román Soria Velasco. In addition, a plaque was presented to Yenny Torres Navarrete, current deputy dean of the Faculty of Livestock Sciences, for her work during her period as dean of the same, an award that was presented by the students of this academic unit.
