The State Technical University of Quevedo organised the First International Symposium on Applied Research in Engineering Sciences (SIACI).

The event began on 7 November in the "Ciudad del Río" hall with a presentation by Rafael Moreno, a Spanish national.

At the inauguration of the programme, the rector of the UTEQ, Eduardo Díaz Ocampo, who in his speech pledged to continue the efforts to "carry out academic events of this nature to enrich the critical mass of the population".

Marlene Medina, coordinator of the symposium, said that it has been a very dynamic work and research task with national and foreign speakers. She also said that the university is always promoting this type of events that denote seriousness and scientific rigour.

"We had around 400 participants with 77 research productions and exhibitions in different rooms and in two years' time we will be holding another academic event of similar characteristics," he said.

Raúl Hernández Palacios from the Autonomous University of Hidalgo (Mexico) said that it is important for universities to promote this type of event, which is an important space for research.

The event culminated on 9 November in the Ing. Carlos Cortaza González auditorium where the participants received their respective certificates.
