The Ministry of Environment together with UTEQ, the Army and the National Police socialised the campaign 'If you take one, there will be none left' on 10 November.

"

The aim of this campaign is to put a stop to the trafficking of wild animals and to raise awareness among people about the non-trafficking of these species.

Roy Casanova, deputy provincial director of the Ministry of the Environment (Los Ríos), said that there are laws such as the Comprehensive Organic Penal Code (COIP) and the current environmental regulations of the forestry law that punish those who deprive wild animals of their habitat.

This initiative will also serve to socialise people not to keep these animals as pets and not to consume their meat, as all of this is considered a crime, Casanova added. Tigrillos, toucans, parrots, snakes, crocodiles, among others, are considered wild animals.
